Google takes another shot at social network with Shoelace

After shutting down Google+ in April, Google is working on another social network with a more different approach.

The search giant is currently trailing a new platform called Shoelace, a hyperlocal social network for people who want to find others to join them in real life specifically for events and nearby activities.

The app is currently being test run in New York and is available in an invite-only mode, much like gmail when it first started.

It may be remembered Google is not new to this concept. In 2011, it launched Schemer, which aimed to do pretty much the same thing as Shoelace until Google shut it down in 2014.
